It is with great sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of James H Gallagher (Jim), 72 on 01/12/2024 at home in the arms of the love of his life Carol, who survives him. Jim is also survived by his children Kaitlin and Colin (Omar Mack), and his sister Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents Kathleen and Jim, his sisters Kathy and Rita, and nephew Mark.
Jim graduated from Maine Endwell high school and continued onto Delhi College. Jim spent his life as finish carpenter, cabinet maker and artist. He was an avid fan of classic rock, jazz and blues.
In 1984, at the height of his alcoholism, Jim and Carol opened a bar, “Gallagher’s,” in Johnson City. At the time it was his greatest dream and almost killed him. When the dream soured, he chose life, remaining sober for 38 years. This enabled him to be a guide and teacher for so many others on a similar path.
Jim dedicated most of his career to self-employment while running Woodhouse Carpentry from his home. Additionally, he contributed his expertise to various companies; Kopcik Construction, Knox Millwork and post-retirement, Marchuska Brother’s Construction.
Jim was a member of the Endwell United Methodist Church for 43 years.
Jim had a deep passion for helping others; a commitment that became increasingly apparent during his 13-year involvement with Volunteers In Mission in Haiti. Through these journeys, he generously shared his skills, kindness, and love, leaving an indelible impact on the lives he touched.
Family, love, and devotion formed the cornerstone of all that he built. Jim’s greatest happiness stemmed from bringing laughter to his loved ones. His selflessness shone brightly as he consistently placed others’ needs before his own; embodying a spirit of generosity and care that touched every aspect of his life.
May he live in spirit as he lived in life, surrounded by love, light and laughter.
