Ada A. Zur

Throughout her life, Ada Angelina Zur (nee Pezzuti) was devoted to the Blessed Mother. And with her help and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Ada went peacefully to her eternal life on December 22, 2012. Known as Angie, she was born August 2, 1922 to the late Joseph and Anna Pezzuti, in Endicott, New York. She was pre-deceased by infant son, Christopher, her husband of forty-five years John, and son Jack. Dominic, Anthony, Louis, Columbus, Abilio, Diva Ligi, Julia Jaros, Theresa Giordani, Josie Nirchi, and Gina Colafrancesco predeceased their sister, Angie. Angie is survived by her children Robert (Roberta), Janice Sullivan, Barbara J. Prokop (Vic), Leslie C. Minoia (John, Jr.) and daughter-in-law Susan Zur as well as grandchildren Heather D. Zur, Christian P. Zur, Rachael A. G. Zur (Kirk Nachman), Justin P. Sullivan (Sasha), Ereck J. Sullivan (Wendy), Casey A. Sullivan, Matthew D. Zur, Garrett J. Zur, Bridgette Zur, Adrienne L. Minoia and John Minoia III and two great-grandchildren Natalie and Alexander. Brothers-in-law Dominic Nirchi, John Ligi and sisters-in-law Anna Pezzuti and Louise (Pinky) Zur remain faithful friends. Angie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Not one to wear religion on her sleeve, Angie lived her life with dignity and grace, doing her good works as part of her daily routine, visiting the sick in hospitals and nursing homes, teaching religion classes throughout the years to children. Angie had a good sense of humor. She enjoyed pointing out middle-aged men as the boys she had in class. A life-long member of St Anthony’s Parish, Angie worked for many years on projects to help the parish and parishioners. She was past president of St. Ann’s Society and a member of the Daughters of Columbus from the age of sixteen. Angie was instrumental in bringing the Italian liturgy to St Anthony’s. Proficient in Italian, she helped people send letters to their families in Europe, even dealing with the Italian government bureaucracy, aiding those who were applying for their pensions. A true joy came in later years as “Miss Angie” began teaching Italian to very young children at the Learning Center. Angie was a member of LOCA and the Board of Elections. During the war years, when her husband John was overseas, she worked for IBM and later for Cadre. Always a quick study, Angie became supervisor of her department with relative speed, but the draw of family took precedence over the job. She loved music and would reminisce of the beautiful sound her parents singing together in the evening as they worked -mother in the kitchen, her father in the garden. Angie’s dedication to her family and friends would be a constant throughout her life. She prayed for them each and every day. For over twenty-five years an open Rosary group met weekly at her home. That power of prayer touched many lives over the years as many have attested.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 12:30 pm at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church Thursday from 10 am until Mass time at 12:30 pm.
