Alan “Tiny” Grannis

Alan “Tiny” H. Grannis, of Kirkwood, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at age 72. He was one of five children and graduated from Vestal High School in 1961, where he distinguished himself as a record-setting running back, earning the nickname “Tiny”. Persistently tough yet nimble of foot, his talented athleticism was reflected in his graceful flair on the dance floor. He was an avid NY Giants football fan. Alan loved nature, especially planting and tending an annual vegetable garden, this love translating into 36 years with Giant Markets as a produce manager. Alan also enjoyed woodworking and golf. He and his surviving wife, Linda (Cady) Grannis found peaceful comfort fishing together, and his grandchildren (Katelyn Godoy (husband Terry), Kate Leathers, Victoria (Torie) Hayes, Kristin Schultz and Henery and Cherish Grannis) have rich and fond memories of time spent with Pop-Pop/Grandpa. Alan is also survived by his daughters Laura Schultz and Ellen Hayes-O’Connor, and sons Rick Polhamus (wife Sally Leathers) and Douglas Grannis, as well as his great grandson named in his honor, Bentley Alan Godoy. He is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth (wife Margaret), Ronald (wife Linda) and sister, Carol Schindler (husband Greg) and one sister-law Helen Grannis. Alan is predeceased by his parents Edgar and Marian; and brothers, Harold and Gerald. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 12 pm. at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home on Tuesday from 10 am until the service time at 12 pm.
