Alfred “Allie” Latessa

Alfred Latessa and his wife, Paula Spencer Latessa, Johnson City, were tragically taken from their families in an auto accident on August 8, 2022. Alfred was known as a kind man, a loving brother and husband. He was called Uncle Allie or Pop-Pop by many family members. He is predeceased by his mother, Gloria Gross Latessa and survived by his father, Mattia (Matthew) Latessa, sister, Alycia (Jay) Harris, Endicott and brother, Maurice (Susan) Latessa, Syracuse, his Aunt Josephine (Frank) Petrilli, Endicott, and a Great Aunt Eleanor Gross, Syracuse. Paula is predeceased by her parents, Leland and Judy Spencer and survived by her siblings, Bonnie Spencer, Valerie Rosier, Leland Spencer, and James Spencer. She has four children, John Lamoree, Deana Lamoree, April (Dennis) Fitch, Joann (Jon) Vanbarriger. Paula and Allie loved their twelve grandchildren (three lived with them, Alex and John Lamoree and Skylar Campbell) and three great grandchildren. Alfred has many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, acquaintances, to include special childhood friends, John Alessi and David Leskow.
Allie was a brute of a guy, had gorgeous eyes and an almost suspicious smile. He was big, loud, and warmed your heart the minute he walked in the door. When you were near Allie, he noticed you, and you felt welcomed. He worked at Monroe Market in Endicott for about 10 years and was like King of the neighborhood. Anyone (any age) who walked in the store knew him and it was constant. Allie, ring me up, pass the lottery tickets, make a sandwich, or give me a pack of cigarettes. There are many who remember him for his good deeds and being a “great guy.” During the 80/90’s, you could hear Allie with his husky, loud voice at least once a day on “WAAL,” as the “Motherload.” He began a 21-year employment at the Vestal Wal-Mart behind the Seafood counter. Allie worked his way up to Team Lead over the Meat & Produce departments. He loved his job and seeing his co-workers. Whether you were a customer or coworker, Allie would yell across the department to acknowledge you, and say hello.
A Memorial Service, celebrating Alfred and Paula’s life, will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, Temple Concord, 9 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Temple Concord CHOW Pantry are suggested at 9 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905, or The Broome County Humane Society, 167 Conklin Avenue, Binghamton, NY 13903.
