Alfredo “Al” Paniccia

d. April 14, 2022

Alfredo Paniccia (“Al”) passed away in his sleep, at home, April 14, 2022. He was born August 15, 1931 in Torrice, Italy to Enrico Paniccia and Elvira Scaccia. He later moved a short distance to Frosinone, Italy. At age 20, he decided that his next move would be to the U.S., despite the fact that he was uninvited. When U.S. immigration authorities chased him from Bridgeport CT, he came to Endicott, where he settled, until now. There, he married Mamie Roma, with whom he shared over 68 years of life. She survives him.
In Endicott, he attended night school, where he learned to speak, write, and read the English language. Several years following his arrival in Endicott, he proudly became a U.S. citizen.
He also attended evening classes to not only learn the carpentry trade, but also to read and understand blueprints. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 277 (formerly Local 281) for over 60 years, and an employee of Sarkisian Bros. Inc. for over 40 years. As a project superintendent, he was the company’s highest ranking on-site representative on numerous commercial building projects in Syracuse, Auburn, Ithaca, Elmira, Newburgh and Binghamton. He managed to make it home from those jobs every night, to be with his family.
In evenings and on weekends he built and remodeled homes for himself, his children, and other family and friends. He also managed, with his brother, to grow a vegetable garden and make barrels of wine.
In addition to his wife, Alfredo is survived by his son and daughter and their families: Alfred and Lynn Paniccia, their daughter Leanora; and Christine and Tom Pasquale, their children Danielle, Thomas and Elena; a sister Pasqualina Bracaglia; a brother-in-law Joseph Roma; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and friends whom he cherished. He is predeceased by his parents, a brother, Umberto Paniccia, his in-laws, Luigi and Eleanora Roma, and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews and a niece, compari and comari, and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott, Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Monday evening from 5-7 pm.
