“In blessed remembrance of Alice Tartanian Hopkins, who passed into heaven on the morning of December 23, 2016 at the age of eighty seven years, peacefully and in her own home near the town of Maine, New York, with family and friends by her side. She is survived by her two sons Matthew John Lane and Patrick Gregory Lane, two grandchildren Michael John Lane and Genoa Tartanian Lane, and by her sister Esther Tartanian Walker, and nieces Ivy Morrow and Lily Walker, and nephew Darin Walker, cousins Edward, Mary and Charlie Tartanian, and by many members of the Tartanian, Hopkins, and Lane families - cousins, nieces, nephews and step-grandchild Danielle Fowler - whom she loved greatly.Waiting to welcome her in paradise were her father John Tartanian and mother Mariam DerManouelian Tartanian. Her years of devoted service to others included working at Western Union, the Greater Binghamton Airport for TWA, travel agencies, and decades at the Social Security Administration helping people get the aid they needed. She served as president of the local area chapter of the Armenian Relief Society, for which Alice did long time and wonderful work helping others, and in leadership roles in the United Church of Christ congregation of the Maine Federated Church. She worked tirelessly with many charities, civic and educational organizations, including volunteering at Maine Memorial Elementary School, the American Legion of Maine, and the Historical Society of the town of Maine.Alice loved to travel; she saw the world - Paris, Cairo, Jerusalem, the Danube River, and more - and always treated everyone she met with respect and as an equal. We are all greatly saddened by the loss of such a beautiful, kind and generous person, and we will miss her greatly for always.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 30, (calling hour at 10 am, service at 11 am, receiving friends and family in Fellowship Hall following) at the Maine Federated Church (2615 Main Street, Route 26) in Maine, NY, with Pastor Robert Dean officiating.Local friends and family who wish to help with the service or reception should contact Pastor Dean through the church office.Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, loved ones are requested to make a donation to the Maine Federated Church, so that it may continue to serve the community Alice loved and devoted her life to as a member, and sometimes president, secretary, or regional representative, of their UCC congregation.
May the Lord please bless Alice and keep her in paradise, awaiting the blessed and assured resurrection on the last day.”
