Alice Jean Spencer

d. February 20, 2024

Alice Jean Spencer, 62, of Endicott, NY, passed away at home on February 20, 2024, of cancer. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, David and Dorothy Spencer, and siblings Ray and Susan Spencer. She is survived by her son Robert Johnson, daughter Katie Johnson, and siblings John, Ken, Marie, and Paul Spencer. She shared many special occasions with ex-husband Mark Johnson, and their children. Alice always said, “my children were the best thing I ever did.” Aunt Alice was especially fond of David, Laura, Ryan, Kyle, Amy, Craig, Amanda, Mark, Matt, Tyler, Cheyenne, Valerie, Tom, Nate, and Joe, her nieces and nephews, having “wished for every single one of them”. You are ALL her favorites. Alice’s greatest joy in life was her family and friends. She loved people and always put others in front of herself. She was incredibly thoughtful and delighted in finding just the right gifts for her loved ones throughout the year. She brought people together and no one was excluded. The more, the merrier. Her impact on the world is evident, and has recently taken center stage, with the outpouring of love and support from visiting family and longtime friends. Alice was an accomplished hair stylist and business owner, operating Spencer’s Hair Shop in Endicott, NY, since 2005. She delighted in serving her clients, sharing their lives, and in many cases seeing children grow up from their first hair cut into adulthood. Her skill and creativity were clear in her work, including a 2013 Hair Warz 1st runner-up win in collaboration with good friend and colleague Maria Beach. Years later Alice, Maria, and Cindy Gonos came together under one roof, forming a powerful trio. A friend to many and stranger to few, Alice was known for her compassion, sense of humor, storytelling, and unique verbiage. She will always be remembered for her ability to make others feel comfortable in her presence. She was a talented quilt maker, excellent cook, and master confectioner of Spencer family Easter candy eggs. Many of us are lucky enough to be able to fondly reminisce on the lunches she made during our childhood. She loved a good tea party and dressing up a table for special occasions. Alice held a lifelong connection with the beach and boards of Seaside Park, NJ. Alice was happiest spending time with loved ones, gardening with annual and perennial flowers, and listening to music. You will find her somewhere over the rainbow where the clouds of illness are far behind her.
Funeral Services for Alice will be held Saturday, March 2 at 1 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street. The family will receive friends Saturday at the Allen Memorial Home from 11 am until Service time at 1 pm.
