Alma graduated from Radford College with a BS in Biology and Pre-med in 1957 and attended Virginia Polytech Institute for an MS in Entomology. Despite her positive professional outlook, she decided it was not so much what you accomplish in life, but rather how you go about doing it. She became a lifelong homemaker, a dedicated wife to Walker throughout his professional career, and great mother to her four children, as well as two nieces, Helga Fröhlich and Alma Rood, and special grandmother to great-niece Natasja DeFiores, great-nephew Roberto Jensen, and great-niece Graciela Jensen.

She was a very faithful woman and a committed member of the Altar Rosary Society, a religious education teacher, catholic school volunteer and annual church bazar committee member at St. Joseph Church, as well as a brownie/girl scout leader. She was also the mother who had several neighborhood kids stopping in for meals and snacks along with her pep talks. Her famous arroz con pollo was the talk of the town.
Earlier in her life she had various hobbies including the collection of figurines, decorative spoons, porcelain dolls, commemorative coins, and historic stamps. But by far her most treasured collection was her hundreds of owls. Later in life she was very engaged in numerous word related puzzles, hallmark/classic movies, and she really enjoyed countless game show programs.
She was a selfless person who garnered more value from helping others rather than herself. She was the one who all could depend on to give you exactly what you needed. She made a true impact on the lives of every person she met – each have their own treasured Alma memory. For these we are grateful as they will live in our hearts forever.
We will celebrate Alma’s life on Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Joseph Church, 207 Hayes Ave, Endicott, NY 13760. Beginning at 10am the family will receive visitors, followed by a traditional catholic funeral mass at 11am. Following the mass, a procession to Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery for a grave site committal.
