Anastasia “Stasia” Fontana

Anastasia Fontana, 96, passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Fairview Home on Saturday, March 15, 2014. She was preceded in death by her first husband, August (Gus) Petras and her second husband, Reginald Fontana, and is survived by her sons and daughters-in-laws: David and Becky Petras of Brewster, MA. and Daniel and Beverly Petras of Punta Gorda, Fl., and her two-step-sons and their wives: Bob and Jo Fontana and Dan and Mary Fontana, all of Charlotte, N.C., as well as seven grandchildren and their spouses: Jennifer and Will Dennis of Brooklyn, N.Y., Matthew and Erika Petras of Los Angeles, Ca., Meghan and Ivin Ballen of Brooklyn, N.Y., Drs. Melissa and David Zlotnick of Metairie, La., step-grandchildren Bobby and Georgia Fontana, Angel and Joel Martin, and Casey and Kate Fontana all of Charlotte, N.C. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren: Jack and Gabriel Dennis of Brooklyn, N.Y., Alexander and Eloise Petras of Los Angeles, Ca., Max and Ian Zlotnick of Metairie, La., Bobby and Victoria Fontana, Harrison, Zachery and Jody Martin, Gabrielle and Lily Fontana, all of Charlotte, N.C. Known as “Stasia”, she was the daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth Vanek Klimow. Four brothers and a sister predeceased her: Nicholas, Henry, Alexander, Steve and Rose. She is also survived by her dear sister Helen and very special nieces and nephews John and Eve DiMenna and Donna and Dutch Klimow, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews throughout the country and world. Stasia retired from Endicott Johnson in 1987, and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Reg. She was a long time member of: the John Hus Church where she was a founding member of the Beacon Club. She was a member of the Woodrow Wilson Alumni Association and the Moravian Club. She and her sister, Helen and brother, Steve were inseparable and could be found attending many social functions in the Triple Cities. Since 2008 she resided in an Independent Apartment at Good Shepherd Fairview Home, where she made many good friends among the residents and staff. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the aides, staff, volunteers and Hospice workers at Good Shepherd, especially all those on Level B who gave her such great and loving care in her final days. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her generous, kind and caring ways.
Funeral Services will be held Friday 12 pm from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-51 East Main Street, Endicott, with the Reverend Robert Peak, Pastor of her church officiating. Entombment will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Friday from 11 am until service time at 12 pm.
