Anna D. Hanus (Ann), 96, of Vestal, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Groton Community Health Care Center. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Frank; parents Joseph and Katherine Dwornik; brothers Michael, Michael, and Joseph, and sisters Rose and Betty. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and George Andrews of Melbourne Beach, FL, Kathleen and Fred Pierson of Syracuse, NY, and Petrina and Dan Fadel of Groton, NY; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Dahulich and Olga Baron; and several nieces and nephews. She also cherished her relationship with her neighbors Al and Colleen Babicek and their family. Anna was an avid gardener, who never met a weed she didn’t want to pull. Her friends and family will miss her wonderful cooking and baking. She created a home filled with love. She was employed by Endicott Johnson, and she retired from Harris Food Stores. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Her family would like to thank the staff at Groton Community Health Care Center for their warmth and kindness to Anna and her family during her final months.
Private funeral services for her immediate family were held at the convenience of the family. Burial took place at the Slovak Catholic Cemetery, Binghamton. Contributions in Anna’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, or The Iacocca Family Foundation, 867 Boylston Street, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02116 for diabetes research.
