Anthony (Tony) Nirchi, 90, of Endwell, NY (originally from Arnara, Italy), passed away peacefully on May 23, 2016. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Luisa and Vincenzo Valletta. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 70 years, Anita (Mancini) Nirchi; their two children, Mario (Linda) Nirchi, Maria (David) Mastrogiacomo; grandchildren Michael Nirchi, David (Julie) Nirchi, and Melissa (John) Schofield; great grandchildren Dominick and Violet Nirchi, Jack and Gabriella Schofield. He is also survived by his brother Dominick Nirchi, brothers-in-law Sam (Palma) Mancini, Antonio (Teresa) Mancini, and sister-in law Maria Mancini, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Tony was a barber for over 50 years, founding the Hollywood Barber Shop on Main St., Johnson City, and after retiring worked at Valentino’s Barber Shop in Endicott. He served as a member and treasurer of the Independent Mutual Aid Society for over 30 years. He and his wife took a number of trips including Hawaii, Acapulco, and Italy; in addition to spending many winters in Florida. He loved golfing, gardening, and of course made the best wine you ever tasted.
Funeral Services will be held Friday 9:15 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Church of the Holy Family at 10 am, (due to the renovation of St. Anthony of Padua Church). Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Team Hopefull (16 Newberry Street, Endicott, NY 13760), which is dedicated to finding a cure for those living with Prader-Willi Syndrome. Tony’s great granddaughter, Gabriella, lives with the rare condition, and he always prayed that a cure would be found one day.
