Antonio “Tony” G. Valentino, 84, formerly of Endicott, died at Colonial Park Care Center in Harrisburg, PA on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicola and Maria Rosa Valentino; a sister Lucia Valentino Caticchio, a brother-in-law Paolo Caticchio, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Elvira Sbarra and Tony and Marianna Pittarelli. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Mary (Sbarra) Valentino; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Valentino-Colson and Douglas Colson; his loving grandchildren Nicholas and Francesca Colson; a brother and sister-in-law Rodolfo and Antonietta Valentino; his nieces and nephews Nick and Anna Valentino, Teresa and Lino Lieto, MariaRosa (Rosie) and Maurice Cohen; Renzo and Michela Caticchio, Maria Luisa and Michele DiLonardo, Jane Sbarra, Judy and Robert Wahila, Luigi Pittarelli, Lucia Biondi, and Donna and “Gino” Buttino; several great nieces and nephews, and several great, great nieces and nephews, along with many Godchildren; and special friends Pat and Giulia Gargano, all of his Barber colleagues and especially Nick and Nina Masucci whom he and Mary travelled to Atlantic City with on a monthly basis. He was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Endicott, serving as a Eucharistic Minister before moving to Harrisburg in 2013. Prior to moving to the US, he was a police officer in Italy and was stationed in several cities. He was a barber in Endicott for over 50 years where he started at Giordano’s Barber Shop, and then owned Valentino’s Barber Shop on McKinley Avenue, Endicott, where many great friendships were made throughout his career. He also was the NYS Examiner for barber licenses for several years and a member of the Broome County Barber Association. He was a member of the Duca Degli Abruzzi Lodge #443 Order Sons of Italy in America. As a hobby, Tony loved to make his homemade wine, prosciutto and sausages. Many family members and friends will have fond memories of gatherings at his home. We will truly miss him.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday 1 pm from St. Anthony of Padua Church, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church Monday from 11 am until 12:45 pm. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Tony’s memory may be made to the Jorge N.
