Armin E. Wimmer, 88, died peacefully at the United Methodist Home, Hilltop Campus, Thursday, April 13, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Dolores M. Wimmer and his grandson, Brent W. Bowers. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Trudi and Brent Bowers of Apalachin, NY; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Michael Yesalonia of West Danville, Vermont; and son and daughter-in-law Karl and Debbie Wimmer of Brackney, PA. Armin had eight grandchildren, Christi A’Hearn and husband Larry, Katie Bowers and Kijanna Rose, Michael Yesalonia and his wife Bethany, Karli Wimmer, Johnathan Yesalonia, Alicia Horspool and her husband Alex, Heather Wimmer, and Kyle Wimmer. Armin also had three Great Grandchildren, Brent and Brodi A’Hearn and Khloe Rose. Armin is also survived by cousins William Kohl and wife Patricia of Lincroft, NJ, their children’s families, and Doris Kohl of Monmouth, NJ. Armin was born in Irvington, NJ to Hermann Wimmer and Alice (Kohl) Wimmer, and grew up in Maplewood, NJ. He attended and graduated from Newark College of Engineering with an Associate’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He then served as Navy pilot for the VP-23 Hurricane Hunters Squadron. Upon discharge from active duty, Armin attended and graduated from R.I.T. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. Armin and his family settled in Vestal, NY. Armin owned and operated the Vestal News and Tempo of the Town, and later Our Press Incorporated in Chenango Bridge, NY. Armin served the community for many years in many capacities, among those were Red Cross Instructor, Innsbruck and Labrador Ski Patroller, swimming referee, and docent at the Ross Park Zoo. Armin’s family would like to thank the UMH Hilltop Campus staff for providing excellent care and support for Armin and family during his two year stay. Expressions of sympathy in Armin Wimmer’s name may be made to the Ross Park Zoo.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday 11 am from the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Father Corey VanKuren will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Tuesday from 10 am until service time at 11 am.
