Barbara B. Herne

Barbara Herne passed peacefully away in her sleep on October 22, 2024 at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husbands, Lawrence Elling (1969) and Donald Herne (2000). She is survived by her four children, Lyn Kaloustian (Steve), Dr. Ted Elling (Kathy), Kay Anzalone (Jerry) and Joan Kisacky (Alan), her six grandchildren, Carly Ottenbreit (Dominik), Heidi Kaloustian, Ben Elling (Rosa), Dan Elling (Laura), Amy Rock (Phil) and Jillian Anzalone-Burgette (Amanda), and her three great-grandchildren, Lily Rock, Jemma Anzalone-Burgette, and Alijah Anzalone-Burgette.
Barbara was a native of Geneva, NY. She graduated from the Potsdam State Colleges’ Crane School of Music. She taught vocal music in the Lake George and Union-Endicott School Districts. She was an active 59-year member of Endwell United Methodist Church, in its choirs from 1969 -2018 including directing it in the 1970’s. She was also a member of the Binghamton University Choral Society and Madrigal Choir of Binghamton, and a member and a past president of the Harmony Club of Binghamton. She was an active member of the Western Broome County Retired Teachers Association where she also served as a past president. She was also a member since 1992 of the Phelps Mansion and Lyceum. Barbara traveled extensively overseas and on cruises, often with touring choirs and small groups in various European countries.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Endwell United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 24th at 11AM. The family will receive guests at 10AM. We would like to thank the staff at the Hilltop and Elizabeth Church Manor campuses for their wonderful loving care. Memorials can be made to the Harmony Club Scholarship Fund, Endwell United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton.
