Barbara Metritikas

Barbara Joan Metritikas, 86, of Vestal, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Edwards family and was one of ten children, a wife of over 60 years, a mother of five and grandmother to eleven.
Barbara is survived by her husband Peter Metritikas, and their children and spouses; John and Mary Metritikas, George Metritikas, Paul and Vicki Metritikas, grandmother to Katie Lyerly (Burns), Shannon and Mark Burns, Pete, Jenna, Stavros, and Eva Metritikas as well as four great-grandchildren, two more on the way that she was very much looking forward to meeting. She was preceded in death by her beloved children Cindy Burns, and Stavros (Steve) Metritikas.
Barbara was a woman of strong faith and was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation for many years.
After retiring from IBM in Endicott, Barbara found joy in simple pleasures and cherished moments spent with her loved ones. She was known for her culinary talents. Barbara delighted in preparing delicious home-cooked meals for her family and her green thumb was evident in her vibrant garden, which became a haven for many beautiful bird species. She could name each bird that visited her back yard and found great joy in observing their beauty and listening to their sweet melodies from her kitchen table.
At Barbara’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing should kindly consider donations in Barbara’s name to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, located at 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760, whose staff provided such kind and compassionate care to Barbara and her family as she waited to meet the Lord in the end. May she rest in eternal peace.
