Barbara D. Rodman

August 31, 1925 — March 31, 2010

Barbara Rodman, 84, of Endwell passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010 and into the waiting arms of her husband of 50 years, Richard, and those of her daughter Kristin. Also celebrating her arrival in Heaven were her parents, Evelyn Dorin Murray and Robert Dorin. Survived by daughters Terry (Alan) Brearley, Essex Junction, VT and Jill (James) Schaffer, Endicott, NY; grandchildren Lauren, Erin, Connor, Daniel, Shannon and Colin; great-grandchildren Kristin, Logan, Tyler and Claire; brother Edward (Sharon) Murray, Greene, NY; cousins Robert and Wayne Dorin; nieces and nephews; her special friend Theresa Moran, who was like a sister to her. Our mom was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends: yearly vacations to Cape Cod; our six week cross-country camping trip including her mother (what a great guy our dad was to bring along his mother-in-law!!); her trips to Italy and Ireland. When our dad retired they had 20 wonderful years before his death. They traveled to Germany (a place they both always dreamed of seeing), Austria and St. Thomas. They loved spending summers in Lake George, NY. She used to comment she was like her childhood dog Nifty, always at the door waiting for the next outing. That was Mom, always up for an adventure. She loved music, reading, movies and learning. As a life-long learner, she and her friends would often sit in on classes at Binghamton University. Her quick wit was appreciated right up to her trip to the hospital as she made the comment that her agenda for the day did not include the emergency room. She often commented that she had lived past her expiration date!!. We’re so glad she did.Funeral Services will be held Monday 1 pm from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Ambrose Church at 1:30 pm. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Monday from 11 am until service time at 1 pm. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City, NY 13790 or the American Heart Association, 59 Court Street, 4th Floor, Binghamton, NY 13901.
