Beatrice “Bea” Wright

d. May 1, 2022

Beatrice A. Wright, 90, went home to be with the Lord on May 1st, 2022, at Cortland Memorial Hospital.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Richard, parents Herman and Virgil Hackbart, and sister Betty Samsow.

She is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Linda and Dave Opie, David and Heather Wright, Chris and Therese Wright, her Grandchildren, Alex and Eric Opie, Rebecca Burke, and Sarah Wright. She leaves behind one brother and his wife, William and Elsie Hackbart of Vestal.

Bea was born in Elmira, NY, and moved to Vestal at a young age, where she grew up and went to school. While working at IBM, she met and married Dick Wright, eventually settling in Owego, NY. After 28 years in Owego, Bea and Dick decided to embark on a new adventure and built a home on the coast of Maine. Over the next 32 years they enjoyed a new life in Maine with many precious friendships. Although Bea wasn’t born and raised in Maine, she loved Maine and was very proud to call herself a “Mainer”.

Bea was a member of the Owego Presbyterian Church, the Maine Ridge church during which she headed the women’s group, and an active member of the Port Clyde Maine Baptist Church for several years, as well as the Eastern Star Naomi Chapter 25. Her favorite hymn was the Hymn of Promise, and she enjoyed painting, gardening and bird watching. In her later years she could still recall the names of many birds and plants. If you had gotten to know Bea, you would have enjoyed her witty sense of humor as well as her one-liners. Her laughter will be sorely missed.

Shortly after Richard’s death in 2018, poor health forced her to return to New York to be near her children. Mom spent her few remaining years in assisted living at Walden Place, Cortland, NY. We would like to thank the staff, for the loving care she received, while a resident there.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Bea at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott at 6 p.m. on May 26th, 2022.
