Beverly J. Gober (Cole-Swain), 68, of Clayton, NY, (formerly of Vestal, NY) passed away suddenly on August 21, 2014 at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. She was born on August 23, 1945 in Binghamton, NY, to Walter and Melba Cole. She graduated from Vestal High School in 1963 where she was an active cheerleader. She then went to work for IBM Endicott and retired after 30 years of service. Upon retirement, she and her husband Joe, moved to Clayton, NY to fulfil their dream of living on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. They then spent winters in Myrtle Beach with all of their “snow bird” friends. She is predeceased by her first husband Michael Thomas Swain, and parents Walter and Melba Cole. She is survived by her husband, Joe Gober (Clayton, NY), daughter Lori Swain-Herman (Endicott, NY) and her husband Tom, daughter Nicole Swain-Listemann (Clayton, NY) and her husband Erik, four grandchildren who were her “pride and joy”… Alex and Alyson Herman (Endicott, NY) and Chase and Annabel Listemann (Clayton, NY). She had four step children: Joe Jr., Joyce, JoAnne, and Veronica, as well as, six step-grandchildren and many brother and sister-in-laws. Of special note are lifelong friends Dick and Nancy Battista (Endicott, NY) and her special dog Pudgie-Peter, as well as her “grand-dogs” Rudy, Simpson, Bambi, Layla, Mugsy and Brutus. She was predeceased by Aunt Mary Swain, Lyman Swain, Aunt Fran Collingwood, and cousin Al Collingwood.
The family will receive friends and family at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, NY, Sunday August 24, 2014 from 3 to 5 pm. There will also be a celebration of life to be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to one of Bev’s favorite charities, in her name, The Humane Society. The family would like to thank the staff at River Hospital in Alexandria Bay, NY, Guilfoyle Ambulance Service, and the kind and caring staff at SUNY Upstate Medical Center who did everything they could!
