Carl George Janis, 92, of Vestal New York died January 15th in Vestal. He was born in 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Bernice and William Janis. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Europe during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and worked at Western Electric in North Carolina. Carl then started his 29 year career at IBM Endicott and earned a Master’s Degree in Management from SUNY Binghamton. He always maintained a strong religious faith. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church for more than 62 years and a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, by his loving wife Bunny, his brothers Robert, William (Junior), and Michael. He is survived by his sister Bernadine Berk, Pompano Beach Florida, and his children William Karafiat, Bolingbrook Illinois, Robert Janis (Sally), Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Eric Janis (Kim), Endwell New York, and Donna Mott, Lodi New York. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved them all. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 21, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at church Tuesday, January 21 from 9:30 until Mass time at 10:30 am.
