Carol Compton Lee of Binghamton, formerly of Endicott, 94, died at Wilson Hospital on Sunday, July 14th after an extended illness. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Miriam Compton, and her loving husband and best friend of 60 years Berchard (Bud) Lee. She is survived by her two sons: Joel and daughter-in-law Robin Lee of Maine and Andrew Lee of Bethesda, Maryland, three grandchildren: Matthew (Jenn) Lee of Castle Creek, Marissa Lee of Maine and Mark Lee of Endicott, and three great-grandsons: Maxwell Lee, Mason Lee and McCauley Lee. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara DePugh of Apalachin, four nephews: Roger (Marybeth), Kevin (Debbie), David (Dora) and Allan DePugh, several great nieces and nephews, and her very close cousin Linda Thorson of Apalachin. She was a longtime member of Union Center United Methodist Church. A graduate of Union Endicott High School and Potsdam State Teachers College, she started her teaching career with Adirondack Central Schools in Boonville, New York, and subsequently taught in Johnson City and Union-Endicott on returning to her hometown, ultimately ending up at Maine-Endwell in the early 1960's for the duration of her 33-year teaching career, retiring in 1985. In addition to teaching, she served as church choir director at Union Center United Methodist Church, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, West Endicott and St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Boonville. Her lifetime love of children and of music were apparent to all she met. After retiring, she was an active volunteer with many organizations, including the Nanticoke Valley Historical Society, the Phelps Mansion and NYS Retired Teachers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 18th, at Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:30 until service time at 6:30 pm.
