Carol Dewar

d. July 1, 2021

Carol J. (Silvernail) Dewar passed peacefully from this life on July 1, 2021 with family at her side. She was 88 years old, and truly lived a very blessed and Christian life.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Clara and Raymond, and her beloved husband Ed. She is survived by her three daughters Suzanne (John) Ruminski, Nancy (Joe) Savino and Laura (Mark) Woodruff, six grand-children Jaclyn (Nick) Jennings, Jonathan Ruminski, Erika Musa, Jamie (Kevin) Ohar, Ashley (Patrick) Morrissey and Ryan Woodruff, three great-grandchildren Ethan, Aiden and Kara Jennings, and her three sisters Jane Sweet, Joan Armstrong and Nancy Paige.
Carol was a graduate of the Johnson City class of 1951. She worked as a secretary at IBM and later on at the church office of Endwell Methodist Church where she was a long-standing member. She was always giving of her time, delivering for meals-on-wheels, working at church dinners, sending cards to shut ins, and sewing heart pillows for the American Heart Association.
Family was the center of Carol’s life and she was a truly loving, thoughtful and devoted to all. She was the epitome of grandmothers, always making time with her grandchildren special and memorable by playing games, singing songs, and making sure everyone’s favorite snacks were readily available when visiting.
Carol and Ed shared a long, wonderful 62 years of marriage. Together they took many trips exploring our beautiful country and its national parks and spent many winters in Myrtle Beach. Carol never came home empty handed, always making sure she selected well thought out souvenirs for the grandkids.
In her free time, she enjoyed ceramics, stitchery, quilting, and “hitting the slot machines” at the casino. Time with her girlfriends was always treasured, making memories with her birthday, bridge and “Golden Girls” groups, visiting at the kitchen table over a cup of tea, or taking little day trips. Her thoughtfulness extended beyond her family, reaching out to friends and neighbors with her kindness.
To her family, Carol was an angel and who will now watch over her family whom she so dearly loved. She will be forever in our hearts, remembered always for her love, kindness, little voice, and sweet smile.
As Carol would remind her family: “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done”.
The family is thankful for the kind care extended to Carol by the staff of UMH Hilltop. In lieu of flowers, in Carol’s honor, the family requests you take a moment to smile at a stranger, hug a friend, and tell your family you love them, just as Carol would do.
Funeral Services will be held Friday 11 am at Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson Blvd., Endwell. Burial will be Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Vestal at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at church Friday from 9 am until service time at 11 am.
