Carol Jean Roma Zayac, 82, of Endicott, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. She was born August 26, 1940 at Ideal Hospital, to the late Carlo and Anna (Greco) Roma. Carol was also predeceased by her infant son, Thomas Stephen; her brothers, James and Robert; and sisters, Philomena, Marie and Lorraine. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Thomas Zayac; a son and daughter-in-law Thomas Michael Zayac (Tracy), two daughters and son-in-laws, Christine Sheehy (Danny) and Jennifer Polemeni (Michael); five grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Liam, Emma and Thomas, and also special god-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, caretakers, and many close friends.
Carol graduated from Union-Endicott High School, Class of 1958, and from Broome Tech College in 1960. Carol was a cheerleader for Union Endicott High School, and Broome Tech College. Carol retired from IBM Owego after 20 years and was also a member of the Daughters of Columbus #1666, Endicott, a member of the Union Endicott Athletic Booster Club and a member of the St. Anthony of Padua parish. Some of her favorite pastimes included watching Notre Dame and Syracuse football or basketball games. She never missed athletic activities for her children or grandchildren, she frequented the casinos, and most of all, she was a devoted matriarch who enjoyed and loved her family; especially her five grandchildren, as she hosted many gatherings for family and friends at her home. Carol was known for her baking, generosity, and kindness and will be greatly missed. A special thank you to her caretakers, Claudia, Mary, Pam, Sharon, and Stacy.
The family will receive friends and family at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. On Thursday there will be a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 10 a.m., with the burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
