Charles W. Barrett, 94, of Endwell, NY went to be with the Lord on Monday March 28, 2022. He died peacefully at Mercy House of the Southern Tier following a brief illness. He leaves his wife, Kathryn (Buzako) Barrett after 71 happy years of marriage. He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Mary (Dorsey) Barrett of Towanda PA; his siblings, Margaret Barrett Hand (Donald), Robert P. Barrett (Marie), John Barrett (Mary), Anne Barrett Kerr (Howard), Theresa Barrett McDonald (Robert), Thomas Barrett (Roberta), Edward Barrett (Bernice), Andrew Joseph Barrett (Jean); his sons, John F Barrett and Charles J Barrett both of Endwell, New York. Mr. Barrett is survived by a daughter-in-law, Amy Barrett of Endwell; his two grandchildren Maureen Patterson (Kipp) of Endwell, New York and Patrick Barrett (Laura) of Endicott, New York; one great grandchild Genevieve Marie Barrett. He is fondly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews and other beloved friends and relatives. Charlie was born and raised in Towanda, Pa. On February 16,1945, at a young age of 18, he enlisted into the United States Navy where he served on the USS Detroit (CL-8) and served as a Seaman Second Class. He honorably received the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal-1 Star. We thank him for his service in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he met Kathryn who lived in Mildred, Pa. They were married in Mildred at Sts. Peter and Paul Church and migrated to the Endicott area where he was employed by IBM for 34 years. In his retirement years, both Charlie and Kathryn enjoyed “snowbirding” in Bradenton, Florida.
Services will be held at Charlie’s home parish of Saint Joseph’s Church on Hayes Avenue in Endicott, New York on Friday, April 1, 2022. Visitation will be held at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. His final resting place will be at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a memorial donation to Mercy House of the Southern Tier.
