Christa M. Corcoran, 75, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mary Winkler; daughters, Elease Stewart and Maureen Ferro; stepson, Raymond “Danny” Corcoran; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, deeply loved son-in-law and daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and some extraordinarily special friends. Christa was a gracious and adored wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She has joined beloved family members in heaven who passed before her: husband of 43 years, Robert F. Corcoran, Jr.; father, Christopher Winkler; mother, Ruth (Furman) Winkler; and sister, Laura Winkler. Christa was born in Binghamton, NY; she graduated from Union Endicott High School Class of 1965 and earned an Associate Degree in Business from SUNY Broome Community College in 1991. Christa was employed by The State University of New York (SUNY) for 39 years, proudly serving the remaining 27 years as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean’s Office for the Clinical Campus at Binghamton College of Medicine, at Upstate Medical University. Christa took great pride in her home, neighborhood, and family. She cherished beautiful landscapes, adored animals of nearly every species, long walks with dear friends, family traditions and, most of all, her grandchildren. She was a strong and compassionate woman, quick to stand up for what was right. She had deep-rooted moral values, class, integrity and self-respect. When she was not cleaning or organizing, you would often find Christa enjoying an ice-cold coke, a delicious piece of chocolate, or supporting local commerce with another round of retail therapy. Christa was affectionately called Mom, Gram, Grammie, Aunti Christa, and Chris by various family and friends. She will be missed by all in a most profound way.
Funeral services will be held at 4 pm Saturday, January 14th at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Saturday the 14th from 2 pm until service time at 4 pm. Special thanks are extended to the staff at UHS Wilson (especially the angels working South Tower 5), Dr. Kimberly DeSantis and staff, Dr. Christine Fenlon, Dr. Edward Ioffe, Broome Oncology and to Lourdes Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in Christa’s memory may be made to The Broome County Humane Society, 167 Conklin Avenue Binghamton, NY, or, to a charity of your choice.
