Chrisina C. (Cannavino) Butchko , 82, of Endicott, NY passed away peacefully and went to fly with the angels on Wednesday April 21, 2021. Christina was predeceased by her parents Patsy and Teresa Cannavino, brother Bobby, and Sister Rita (Sariti).
Christina is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gerald, and son Jerry (Laura) Butchko, daughters Linda Topencik, Carla (Arnie) Olson, Rebecca (Kevin) McManus. Special grandchildren Josh (Colleen) Butchko, Nicole (Zack) Riley, Lindsey and Christina Butchko, Kevin, Taylor and Brooklyn McManus, great grandchildren Ava and Ella Butchko and Everett Riley. Also, numerous nieces and nephews, and many special friends that she shared so many memories with.
Christina graduated from Union Endicott High School. She was a secretary for IBM and retired from the Union Endicott School District as secretary for the Superintendent. Mom was truly one of a kind. She welcomed everyone with a smile and a hug, and usually food too. She was extremely proud of her Italian heritage, her Aunts, Uncles and cousins living up and down Oak Hill Avenue, and the North Side of Endicott. Especially Battaglini Bakery, which was started by her grandparents, then run by her Uncle Tony. Mom loved to garden and always had her hands in the dirt. She grew beautiful roses, and many were the recipient of a beautiful mini bouquet. She loved to be outside, loved to watch the birds and butterflies, clouds and sunsets. She had an adventurous side and a quick wit. She was truly selfless, and the ultimate care-giver; always putting others before herself, to the end. Proud of all of her children, she was especially proud of her grandchildren, whom she often cared for on a regular basis. Known as Nana B, she showered them with TLC. and lots and lots of hugs.
One of our mom’s favorite sayings was “it costs nothing to be kind” It was the one thing we all could do for others that didn’t cost a thing. The family would like to thank the staff at Wilson Hospital; especially Dawn, Michelle, Chantelle, Stephanie, Rose, Katie and Raymond, for the gentle care and dignity they gave our mother in her last days. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Ideal Senior Living Center; especially Cha-Cha, Anne, Shannon and Jennifer for the kind and loving care she received during her stay since August 2019. And, especially for the many hugs you could give her when we couldn’t.
