Christine M. Smallwood passed away peacefully on September 3, 2012 after a long life. She was born in Coalport, PA and spent most of her life on Glenwood Road in Vestal, NY. She loved the tranquility and peaceful views from her home. In recent years, she lived happily at The Hearth at Castle Gardens where she made many friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Robert Conrad Smallwood, who died in 2002; her sisters, Joann Schwartz and Mary Marino; and her brothers, Phil and Sam Minacapelli. She is survived by her brothers, Charles (Elizabeth) and Joseph Minacapelli; as well as several nieces and nephews; her children, Gail Smallwood (Thomas Kopp), Schuylerville, NY, Steve Smallwood, Moscow, ID, James (Lisa) Smallwood, Moscow, ID, and Nancy (Ted) Borgstrom, Kirkwood, NY. Christine had five loving grandchildren: Britney and Braxton Smallwood, Arron Kopp, and Sarah and Sam Borgstrom. Christine loved her children, grandchildren and family dearly. Her interests included bird watching, painting, playing pinochle and flower gardening. Flowers always brought her great joy. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal. The family would like to especially thank the hospice staff; Christine’s Aide during her final days, LuAnn Van Hart; and all Christine’s family and friends for their loving support.Funeral Services will be held Thursday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10 am. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Wednesday from 4-7 pm. Expressions of sympathy in Christine’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 157 Clark Street, Vestal, NY 13850.
