David Knight

d. March 24, 2021

We are sad to announce the passing of our adored (Pop’s) David Knight 96. He was selfless, hardworking, and always had a smile on his face! He never sat still and was always willing to help someone in need. He is predeceased by his 1st wife Vivian Knight who he was married to for 63 years and his 2nd wife Ruth Mills. David is survived by his 2 children Cathy (John) Smartt and Lorraine Knight, 4 grandchildren Heather (Barry) Livsky, Carleen Rice (Andy Plaisted), Holly Whittemore (Donny Quehl), and Melissa Smith (Jimmy Cornell), 11 great- grandchildren, 5 great- great grandchildren and 3 step- daughters Sharon, Linda, and Bonnie.
David held many jobs in his life, owning his own gas station in Apalachin, driving bus for the Mello’Dears, delivering fuel oil for O’Brien and Scott Smith and Son, and his last venture was door greater at Walmart for 15 plus years. It gave him such joy to greet people when they came into the store. He loved his church, Apalachin Methodist, which he considered his second family. Over the years they have helped him in countless ways! There are not enough words that we can say about his neighbors who cared for him and looked over him always, he truly loved you all! He also holds a special place in his heart for the crew at Scott Smith and Son in Owego. He has not worked there for many years, but they always took the time to check in on him and invite him to their gatherings. Many thanks to the Cider Mill for sending David gift certificate’s every season.
The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Monday evening from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either the Apalachin United Methodist Church or the Apalachin Volunteer Fire Department.
