David C. Leonard, 77, of Maine, New York, passed away peacefully at Binghamton General Hospital on Sunday, January 7th, 2024, after a brief illness.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Roy Leonard and brother Wayne. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon, his daughters Jennifer Leonard, Kimberly Leonard
(Christopher Kopec), Elizabeth (Tyson) Gamache, and a grandson, Franklin Gamache. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Heather Malack and her family, and his brothers, Dennis (Darlene), Douglas (Karen), Donald (Mary Jo), and their families.
David was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School and served in the United States Navy. He was employed at IBM Endicott for 33 years and was also a long-time employee of George
Industries. For many years, Dave volunteered for the Maine Fire Company and the Maine Emergency Squad.
Dave liked his cars fast and his music loud. He enjoyed photography and fishing, especially on his vacations at Bennett Lake in Canada. He was also a voracious reader who enjoyed conversations about the latest Stephen King novels with his daughters. He always knew the best spots for ice cream, a trait he passed on to his kids. There was nothing Dave relished more than making people laugh, and he was at his best when regaling his friends and family with amusing anecdotes or parading out his many dad jokes. He said that if he could make someone smile it made his day. He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral Services will be held Friday 1 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Maine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Friday from 11 am until service time at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in David’s memory may be made to the Maine Emergency Squad, Incorporated, 2658 Main Street, Maine, NY 13802.
