Dennis J. Bender, 64, of Apalachin, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Francis and Teresa (May) Bender.
Dennis is survived by his devoted wife Debra (Agle) Bender; Loving children Ashley and Brandon; Sisters, Teresa (Gary) Melvin of Hornell, Sue Martin of Webster, and Mary Fay Johns of Rochester; Brothers David (Anne) Bender of North Carolina, Daniel (Melissa) Bender of Leroy, and Duane (Linda) Bender of Adams, NY. Mother and father in law Richard and Betty Agle of Collins NY; Brothers in law Randy (Amy) Agle, and David (Christine) Agle of Collins. And several nieces and nephews.
Dennis retired after 30+ years at NYSEG, retiring most recently as Director of Gas Operations for NYSEG and Rochester Gas & Electric; He has mentored many employees through the years. He was previously an Elder at Grace Lutheran Church in Vestal and a member of the Vestal Elks. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and dedicated Yankee fan! He was often times known for his sense of humor and wild childhood stories. Dennis loved making wine and cider, and truly lived life to the fullest even through his illness, to the very end. He was a devout Christian with unwavering faith throughout his illness. He loved and was loved by his family very much and will be deeply missed, until we meet again.
The family would like to thank: Dr. Frank Floyd for his kind compassionate care through the years. The nurses and staff at Wilson Hospital South Tower 5. Dr. Yalamanchili and Broome Oncology. And the wonderful staff of Mercy House.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 10 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 709 Main Street, Vestal. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, Tuesday evening from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, or the American Cancer Association.
