Donald “Don” Ousterout Jr.

Donald Robert Ousterout Jr., 75, of Endwell, NY passed peacefully in the arms of his Savior, with his loving wife and family by his side on December 22, 2021. He is predeceased by his parents, Donald Sr. And Catherine, his brother David Sr., his sister Mary Hoskins, and his in-laws Nicholas and Irene Agatheas. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 52 years, Ginny (Agatheas) Ousterout. His legacy is carried on by Donald III (Joy), Matthew (Heather), Jonathan (Jordan), Patrick (Lindsay), and Christopher (Michelle), and his 10 grandchildren, Ivy, Ava and Violet, Matthew and Charlotte, Jackson and Cora, Gracie and Patrick, and Nolan. Also, surviving are his special nephew David Ousterout Jr. who Don Considered his sixth son, Sister-in-law, Eileen Ousterout, Brother-in-law Mark Hoskins and nieces, Amy Donahue, Erin Tinder and Jaime Hoskins, sisters-in-law Connie Brennan, Patti Murphy, Nikki (Tom) Corgel, and brother-in-law Bill Agatheas; several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was a fierce friend and he will be missed by all. Don proudly served in the Army Reserves as a medic, even though later in life, he couldn’t handle the sight of the scrapes, cuts and bruises of his own children and at times, would even pass out. He was very proud of the fact that he earned his Masters Degree at Binghamton University. He was working towards his Doctorate when he suffered a stroke that limited his abilities to complete this part of his education, but that didn’t end his hunger for knowledge. He had a great respect for education, and he always encouraged his children to pursue their own life experiences through education. During his professional career, he was most proud of his time with Bell Atlantic/Verizon, and the many connections he made there. However, his most prized accomplishment was his family that he raised with his wife Ginny. He was actively involved with his boys’ extracurricular activities. You would often see Don coaching soccer games, attempting to keep Ginny quiet on the sidelines at her children’s sporting events, leading Cub Scout Pack 218 and Boy Scout Troop 211 that his boys were members of. He even set a fine example by being a lector in church, which all of his boys followed suit to become active in the church, as well. Don taught his boys two very important lessons; one being do not mow a baseball field into the front yard of your own home (thanks, Matt), and the second that it takes much less than eight times of being told to stay off the roof to fetch a ball from the gutter before you listen (thanks, Jon). Don’s greatest example was shown in how he handled his life following his stroke. As Dr. Ramanujan always said, he never complained, he always smiled, and never neglected to ask, “How are you?”. Kindness was his legacy, and he thankfully passed his good heart onto all of his boys and grandchildren. He persevered, and he definitely did it his way. The family is grateful for the care Dr. Ram and his staff gave Don for four decades. He would always say, “Dr. Ram is the best”. He was very well known for Donisms such as, “Yikes”, “Love ya kid”, “How’s the weather”, “very good”, “true, too”, “get out” and of course, his boisterous laugh. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Notre Dame Football, Duke Basketball and the New York Giants. He is fondly remembered for his ability to walk on his hands on New Year’s Eve at the Skylark Diner.

A Funeral Mass for Don will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Ambrose Church 203 Washington Ave, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-6 PM at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott.
