Douglas O. (Doug) Pierce, 64, of Johnson City passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 with his loving wife by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Orvel and Doris Pierce; brother, Gerald Pierce; and infant brother, Thomas Pierce. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Kathy (Griffin) Pierce and his treasured companion “Kessa” Johnson City; daughter, Heather Unsworth and cherished grandchildren Logan and Shaylyn, Margate, FL; brothers and sisters-in-law, David (JoAnn) Owego; Ken (Laura) Tampa, FL; Ruth Pierce, Hudson, CO; mother-in-law, Shirley Griffin, Johnson City; sisters-in-law, Gale (Joe) Pizzuti, Vestal; Debbie Griffin, Binghamton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and very special friends. A special thank you to John and Sabine Heggelke and Erika Clark for all their love and support. Doug was an avid Giants fan. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, hunting, fishing, tennis and golf. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 325 for more than 35 years. Doug served in the Army National Guard and was also a member of the Tuesday Night Club. He was a man of few words and loved deeply all that were close to him. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassion and care given to Doug and his family by the nurses and doctors in the Tower 2 ICU Unit at Wilson Hospital.
Services will be held Thursday, October 16, 1 pm from Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at Allen Memorial Home, Thursday from 11 am until service time at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to Broome County Humane Society, 2 Jackson Street, Binghamton, NY 13903.
