Dr. Louis W. Giordano

d. July 15, 2024

On Monday morning, July 15, 2024, Dr. Louis W. Giordano left this life to meet the Lord in His Heavenly Kingdom. For 90 years, the world was blessed and better for having had Lou as a physician, friend, husband, and father. He was the son of immigrant parents who found the American dream in Endicott, NY, instilling in him morality, a strong work ethic, and love of God, Country, and family. Lou was predeceased by his parents, Caterina and Mario Giordano; his brother, Angelo Giordano; his sister, Regina Giordano Fromhold; and his in-laws, Delfina and Barney Vivona. He is survived by the love of his life whom he adored above all else, his devoted wife of 63 years, Josephine of Endwell, NY; his three children: Lisa Giordano Burke and her husband Tom, Louis Giordano and his wife Sharon, and Lori Giordano Senger and her husband Mike, all of Endwell, NY; nine grandchildren: Nicholas, Samuel, Maxwell, Lydia, and Sophia Giordano, Audrey and Joseph Burke, and Marissa and Morgan Senger; in addition to caring brother-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Lou was a humble, generous man with many accolades, and above all, he was a man of faith and family. He was a graduate of Union-Endicott High School, and he continued his education earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1956. He then furthered his calling to serve God’s people, graduating with his medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School in 1960. After completing his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, MA in 1961, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and as Chief of General Surgery at Kincheloe Air Force Base Hospital, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, 1962-1963. He advanced his career at Georgetown Medical Center as a Resident in OB/GYN, from 1964-1967, and received supplemental continuing education at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Columbia Medical Schools.
Lou was a contributing member of the American Medical Society, American Heart Association, Medical Society of the State of New York, past President of Broome County Medical Society, past President of the Broome County Cancer Society, and a longtime member of the Harper Forum and Binghamton Country Club, and Notre Dame Club of the Southern Tier. These experiences created lasting friendships which he cherished.
While he genuinely appreciated every aspect of life, his true passion was his family; as he would often say, “family isn’t everything; it’s the only thing.” He found sincere enjoyment in each interaction he had, and he ensured every person felt special, appreciated, and loved, reminding us that every day is a beautiful day, in fact the best day. He enjoyed vacations with family, golf with friends, and winters in St. Petersburg, FL. Lou was an avid Notre Dame football fan and especially loved watching the game with Jo and a bowl of popcorn. He especially loved Sunday dinners and time spent with his grandchildren. Lou was a devout Catholic and member of Church of the Holy Family, employing his ideals in every sector of his life.
Many people knew him as “Lucky Lou,” “Sweet Lou,” and “Lou Baby,” and the world will certainly not be the same without him. He will forever be loved as much as he loved everyone.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 10 am at Church of the Holy Family, Endwell, NY. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street Endicott, Monday, July 22, 2024 from 4-7 pm.
