Edith (Ferris) Thornton, 93, of Vestal, passed away at her residence Monday March 20, 2017. She was pre deceased by her husband John Thornton, son William Haggerty, daughter Mary Haggerty, sister Beatrice Snapp, brothers Ralph and Donald Ferris, and a friend Lucille Coleman. She is survived by her children Denise Broughton, Nevada; and Marlene Vymislicky, three grandchildren Daniel (Bridgette), Joseph (Tina), Thomas (Dorrie) Vymislicky, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; a sister Evelyn Schmidt, brother Kenneth (Marylou) Ferris, a brother in law Joseph Thornton and a nephew Ralph Ferris. Edith served in the US Navy and was instrumental in the starting of the Twins Mothers Club. She had started a Head Injury support group in Nevada earning her many awards. She also was a volunteer working with homeless teens in Nevada. Edith was a kind and caring woman that endeared her to many people during her life. We would like to thank the wonderful Hospice care mom was blessed with along with the staff of Vestal Rehab for their great care during mom’s time there.
Funeral services will be held Friday 7 pm at the Allen Memorial Home 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, with Reverend Ken Wood officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home from 4 pm until service time at 7 pm.
