Edmund “Ed” Chermak

d. June 26, 2018

Our beloved father, grandfather and brother, Edmund Chermak, 94, passed away on June 26, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife Anne; daughters Nancy and Marjory Millard (Michael); and brothers Eugene, Herman and Tom. He is survived by daughters Sally and Lisa Rich (Gabriel), sons-in-law Michael Millard and Gabriel Rich III, beloved granddaughter Jessica, brothers and sisters/in-law Leo and Carol Chermak, Bruce Chermak, Polly and Jim Osier, Ruth Bigney and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed was a World War II veteran, serving in France, Germany and Italy as a communications technician transmitting and decoding messages for the 3rd Army. After the war, he returned to his hometown of Endicott, NY and worked as an engineer/manager for IBM for over 40 years.

He played with the Fife and Drum Bugle Corps with his brother Gene. He loved fishing, golf and watching the Yankees unless they were losing, at which point they became ‘those bums.’ Dad took great care of himself exercising and eating healthily, and growing up sometimes there wasn’t room for milk in the fridge due to bottles of wheat germ oil, lecithin and vitamins from A-Z.

One of his greatest joys was being a member of the Vestal Elks Lodge #2508 and all the wonderful people there who were family to him. Many thanks to them for their love, friendship and support throughout the years. Also, special thanks to the staff at The Hearth at Castle Gardens, who treated him with love and kindness during his residence there.

Calling hours will be Sunday, July 1 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott, NY, followed by a service. The Vestal Elks Lodge will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow Service at 2:45 pm. Friends and family are invited for a reception afterward at the Vestal Elks Lodge #2508, 2017 Vestal Parkway West. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Vestal Elks Lodge #2508.
