Edward H. Ellis

March 3, 1922 — June 29, 2012

Mr. Edward Henry Ellis, age 90, of Aiken, SC, loving husband for 70 years to Mildred Ellis and son of the late O’Neil Ellis and the late Martha Ellis, “graduated” to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2012. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his only son Craig (Joanne) Ellis of Aiken; nephews Rod Soltis and Mike Ellis; nieces Sharon Bodek and Sarah Eldred; and a grandnephew Ken Bodek and grandniece Alison Bodek. He was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Ellis and a sister, Ellen Hutchinson. He was born in and was a long time resident of Endicott, NY. At Christmas time 2005 he and Mildred moved to Aiken, SC, to enjoy their “golden years” near their son and daughter-in-law. He was a dedicated member of St. Joseph’s Church in Endicott where he served many years as usher before joining St. Mary Help of Christians in Aiken. One of his many talents was making beautiful flower arrangements which he often used to brighten the lives of nursing home residents as well as friends and family far and wide. Ed was a proud IBM employee for over 36 years starting as an apprentice toolmaker and progressing into various management positions. During his career he never stopped learning taking advantage of numerous in-house courses. He also took to heart the adage that he treat IBM’s business as his very own. He was renowned for being an honorable man whose integrity was impeccable and who treated everyone with kindness and respect. Among his hobbies he enjoyed bowling, pinochle, straight pool and golf. No golf outing was complete without his contribution to the team as “designated putter”. And most days ended with a big dish of his favorite food - ice cream. He left many friends in his hometown of Endicott. It is impossible to list everyone, but Kathy Seliga, Tess and Denny Sheehan, Kathy and Steve Rindos, and Gerry DelCano, deserve special thanks for “being there” almost every day with prayers, encouragement, and help. After moving to Aiken he was welcomed by many wonderful people also too many to mention. However, life would not have been the same without the love and support of Pat Knight, Deacon Bob and Donna and their family, Linda Izard, Beth Yonce, and Elizabeth Burns.A celebration of life funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Endicott on Friday, July 6, 2012, at 10:30 am. The mass will be preceded by a visitation in the church at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Calvary cemetery in Johnson City, NY, with a luncheon for family and friends at Traditions at the Glen. Memorials in Ed’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or St. Joseph Shrine Restoration.
