Edward Katchuk

Edward William Katchuk, 93, was born on March 6, 1922, and passed away on June 5, 2015 after a lengthy illness. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Theresa Katchuk; his brothers, John, Andrew, George, and Joseph; his son, David; and his grandson, Andrew Katchuk. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Peggy Katchuk in Florida; his sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Mary Lou Katchuk in Whitney Point, NY, Richard and Leann Katchuk in Colorado, and Kenneth Katchuk in North Carolina; his grandchildren, Gregory and Mojgan Katchuk in Virginia, Alexis Katchuk in Whitney Point, NY, Scott and Karen Katchuk in Kentucky, Holly and Pete Karpius in New Mexico, and Christopher and Lauren Katchuk in Virginia; his great-grandchildren, Morgan Katchuk in Kentucky, Alexander and Tara Katchuk in Virginia, and Christopher Katchuk in Virginia; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was born and raised in the town of Owego, where he grew up on a dairy farm. He worked in the aircraft industry in Baltimore and then served in the Air Force during World War II. Following the war, he worked for General Electric, Endicott Johnson’s, and retired from management in IBM in 1984. He had a lifelong passion for the outdoors, always keeping a meticulous garden and hunting with the best beagle “in the county.” He not only organized area Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams, but coached them as well and arranged for transportation for all the boys involved. He will always be known for his unique polka style. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Endicott.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday 10 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10:30 am. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Owego. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Tuesday from 4-6 pm.
