Edward Michael Shaughnessy, 90, of Vestal, went to be with his Lord on Monday, March 24, 2014. He was predeceased by his daughter Diane “Dee” Shaughnessy; granddaughter Taylor Anna Bodell; parents Edward and Nellie Shaughnessy; brother, James; sisters, Rita and Jean; In-laws Raymond and Goldie Middendorf and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his “Darlin” the love of his life for the past 63 years Anna Shaughnessy; children Michael (JoAnn) Shaughnessy, Pittsford, NY, Colleen (Larry) Singer, Baldwinsville, NY and Nancy (Frank) Lake, Sayre, PA; son-in-law Paul Bodell, California; nine grandchildren, Brooke, Lyndsey, Ryan and Evan, Chris and Danielle, Marissa, Shawn and Kyle; one sister Helen Fitzgerald, Apalachin; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Paul (Marge) Shaughnessy, Endicott and Gerald Shaughnessy, Apalachin; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member and adult altar server at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal, a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus # 1839, Endicott and a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Ed was a former employee of General Electric Corporation and a retired I.B.M. Corporation employee retiring after 34 years of service and a member of its Quarter Century Club. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Air Force. Ed was a member of the American Legion and volunteered for the American Cancer Society. Ed with his loving wife Anna enjoyed all aspects of their children’s and grandchildren’s lives, attending their various functions, concerts, and sporting events. Additionally, Ed and Anna enjoyed retirement together greatly. They traveled to Ireland, Bermuda, Atlantic City along with California, Minnesota and Colorado to visit family and relatives.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10 am. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Little Meadows, PA. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home on Friday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy at Ed’s request may be made to LAM Foundation, 4015 Executive Park Drive, Suite 320, Cincinnati, OH 45241 (thelamfoundation.org) in memory of his daughter, Diane.
