Eleanor Sommers

Eleanor M. (Boyles) Somers, 84, of Vestal, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Born in Endicott, On August 30, 1930, she is the daughter of Sheldon Boyles and Mary (Moran) Boyles. Ellie is predeceased by her husband, Budd J. Somers, her parents, sister, Patricia (Boyles) Alexander and brother-in-law, Walter Somers. Ellie is survived by her sister, Dolores (Boyles) Bachynski, sister-in-law, Mary (Somers) Foran, sister-in-law, Aleta Somers, brother-in-law, James Alexander, cousin, Richard Tuthill, her six children and their spouses; Philip and Debbie Somers (Livonia NY), Barbara and Michael Merritt (Brackney PA), Mark and Jeanne Somers (Baldwinsville NY), Linda and Jeffrey Burger (Waterbury Center VT), Theresa and Chuck Makarsky (Endicott NY), and James and Michaela Somers (Londonderry NH). She is survived by her 16 grandchildren; Brian (Claire) Somers, Lisa (Michael) Valone, Michael (Kristen) Somers, Christopher (Ashley) Somers, Brendan (Coleen) Merritt, Kyle (Bridget) Merritt, Katherine (Mark) Fitzpatrick, Mark Somers, Jr., Joseph (Rachel) Somers, Lindsey (Andrew) Chamberlin, Stefanie Burger, Shawn Makarsky, Erin Makarsky, Julianna Makarsky, Peter Somers and James Somers. She is also survived by her 15 great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Throughout much of her life she was employed at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Vestal where she and her husband were dedicated members of the church. She enjoyed time spent at the family cottage on Oneida Lake. Ellie loved her children and grandchildren dearly and cherished her time with family. As Mom and Grandma, she will be sorely missed by them and her many friends and neighbors in the local community.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday 9:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 10 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery Johnson city. The family will receive family and friends at the Allen Memorial Home Monday from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eleanor’s name may be made to either the Children’s Tumor Foundation or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
