E. Bernard Rogers (‘Pop’, ‘Bernie’) of Endicott went to sleep and peacefully passed away December 26, 2012, on his 100th birthday. He was predeceased by his wife Mary and son James, both in 1990 in Morrisville, PA.Pop is survived by his son and wife, William and Marianne of Endicott, grandson and wife, Richard and Dana of Paso Robles, CA, granddaughter and husband, Susan and Curtis of Santa Maria, CA, and grandson, Craig of Columbia, NJ.He was also ‘Uncle Sonny’ to nieces Maureen, Judy, and Diane.Pop was born in Trenton, NJ, but lived most of his life in Morrisville, PA.He began his working days at the Pilgrim Dye Works and learned about textiles. This positioned him well for his service in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the USS ‘Catron’ as Chief of the Laundry.Upon his return from overseas, he worked at U.S. Steel until his retirement.Pop loved words and enjoyed singing and reciting old songs and poems of his past, and he did so with humor and artistry. All were greatly entertaining. He will be remembered for his sunny disposition, love of gardening and those wonderful ‘Big Judy’ tomatoes, and his deep devotion to Jehovah. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the love and support of friends, to all those at Lourdes Hospital, and most especially to the staff at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their extraordinary care and compassion in treating Pop with dignity and respect in his final journey. There will be no services.Expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of one’s choice. My Shadow (R.L. Stevenson)I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head; And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow-Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow; For he sometimes shoots up taller like and india-rubber ball,And he sometimes goes so little that there’s none of him at all.One morning, very early, before the sun was up,I rose and found the shining dew on every buttercup; But my lazy little shadow, like an arrant sleepy-head, Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.We hear you, PopRest in peace
