Elizabeth Ann Farrell

February 23, 1938 — January 1, 2025

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Farrell, 86, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at home after a brief illness.
Born Elizabeth Ann Klemmer on February 23rd, 1938 in Richmond NY, Betty was a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, cousin, sister, and friend. She devoted her life to her family, which she did not define as bound by the walls of her home – she extended her endless love and energy to all who needed it.
Together with her loving husband Walter, she traveled the world and always exhibited fun and joy, never afraid to interact with an exotic animal or go down the pool slide with youthful glee. While she loved all animals, she had an unmatched adoration of tigers and exhibited many of their qualities herself, facing numerous adversities and losses with true courage, grace, and fearlessness.
Betty had many hobbies and a diverse set of interests – she was a talented roller skater, even skating with her husband Walter in their younger years; she also bowled well into her eighties, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and a compassionate volunteer at her church for many years.
Betty had the ability to make friends in any situation. Her sense of humor was contagious and she could always be counted on for the truth, which so often came in the form of a witty remark. She even managed to bring much needed levity and laughs to others in her final weeks, which she faced with brave resolve.
Betty left a lasting imprint on all who encountered her – undoubtedly, each of us will carry memories of her comical quips, board game antics, and her ability to brighten every room she entered with her signature smirk and abundant energy. All who knew her should strive to bring her fierce passion, care, and kindness into the world to help keep her memory alive.
Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents, Aloysius and Elizabeth Klemmer (neé Slyvinski), her younger sister Mary Ellen Klemmer, and her beloved son Joseph Farrell. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 63 years, Walter Farrell; her daughter Mary Madeiros, who inherited her uniqueness and empathy; kindhearted grandson Michael Madeiros and his wife Alicia; granddaughter Elizabeth Madeiros, with whom she so fondly shared her name and birthday; and her daughter-in-law Dawn Farrell, loving wife of her late son Joseph, among countless other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 10th from 9:30-10:30 am before a 10:30 mass at Our Lady of Sorrows in Vestal, NY. A burial at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY will follow.
In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that donations be made to St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota at stjo.org.
