Ethel Marie Purtell

Ethel M. Purtell, 87, passed away peacefully at Binghamton General Hospital, Monday, March 3, 2025 after a prolonged battle with dementia. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Robert J. Purtell, mother Marie Herceg, father Allen Harmon sister, Roselle Hadamik and son David Purtell. She is survived by her son Richard (Julie); daughter, Bobbi Clark; daughter, Kathleen; son, Matthew (Marcela), and daughter Carol Dalessio (Joe); ten grandchildren, Kim Nolan (Sean), Amanda Harrup (Marshall), Audrey, Andrew, John, Joshua, Krystof, Danica, Noah, and Vanessa; five great-grandchildren, Caden, Charlotte, Emily, Owen and Wyatt, many nieces and nephews and their offspring. Ethel was a stay-at-home mother to six children and worked tirelessly to maintain a hard working dairy farm that her husband and brother-in-law ran for many years. She was an active member of the St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church in Little Meadows until its closing. She and Robert enjoyed travelling upon their retirements and spent time with her grandchildren and supporting their activities. She was a very good trivia player and enjoyed reading and watching her old western shows on TV.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10:30am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main Street, Vestal. The family will receive friends on Friday at Church from 9:30 am until Mass time at 10:30 am. Burial will be held privately in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, Little Meadows, PA at the convenience of the family.
