Eugene “Gene” Schermerhorn

Eugene (Gene) R. Schermerhorn, 85, of Endicott, NY passed away on April 28, 2021 after a short illness, He was born on May 23, 1935 in Ideal Hospital and is survived by wife of 63 years, Evelyn (Bunny); son, Bruce (Jackie Swan); granddaughter, Jasmine (Jeremy) Leuschke of Florida; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Miller of Florida; brother-in-law, George W. (Sharon) Edmunds of Arizona and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, David; father and mother, William P. and Leona M. Schermerhorn; sisters, Virginia Weingartner and Janet Johnson; brothers, William L. and Maynard L. Schermerhorn; father-in-law, George L. Edmunds; mother-in-law, Doris Hungerford and sister-in-law, Mary Edmunds.

Gene was a member of BPO Elks 1977 and American Legion Post 1700, both of Endicott. A 1953 graduate from Union Endicott High School, he served in the U.S. Navy and retired from IBM in 1987 after 34 years. He owned and operated Schermerhorn Steps and Rails for 24 years. The family would like to thank Lourdes Hospice and Angel’s Helping Hands for the wonderful care they provided Gene in his final days.

Gene has requested that no services be held. Internment will be at Riverhurst Cemetery in Endicott, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the Campville Fire Station, Campville Road, Endicott, NY 13760.
