Evelyn Salani, 92, peacefully passed away on July 15, 2018 surrounded by her loving husband and family. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, John L. and M.Teresa Armstrong, three brothers, Thomas, John D., and Edward Armstrong, and sister Jody (Monico). She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Salani; her sister Rita (Wishengrad), and four daughters: Teresa (Keith) Green, Annie (Steve) Winter, Margaret (Dan) Sullivan, and Catherine Salani. Also, four granddaughters: Katelyn (Al) Winsman, Meghan (Zach) Ullrich, Elizabeth (Alex) Skojec, and Therese Sullivan. She cherished her nieces and nephews, and extended families. Evelyn graduated from Binghamton Central High School. She achieved her goal of attending Triple Cities College (now Binghamton University) and began her career as one of the first female draftswomen for IBM in mechanical drawing. It was there she met Ray, her husband of 62 years. Evelyn was a founding member of Our Lady of Angels Church (now the Church of the Holy Family), participated in the Third Order of the Franciscans, Legion of Mary, and the Altar and Rosary Society. Evelyn taught religious education for 15 years, as well as RCIA. She was a daily mass communicant into her senior years. “Only those who have learned sincere selflessness experience life’s greatest joys” …that was Evelyn. Selfless, tireless and ever-mindful of others, she made bandages for wounded soldiers in WWII, taught art classes at the Boys and Girls Clubs, welcomed in a foster child and others down on their luck, and assisted in patterning therapy for disabled children-all done with kindness, compassion, gentleness, and grace. Evelyn loved “old movies”, music, NY Knicks and Yankees. She especially enjoyed cooking, and painting with watercolors. She could talk to anybody, and loved to laugh. We are beyond blessed by her presence in our lives. Thank you to the Lourdes Primary Care Providers and Hospice staff who cared for our inimitable “Evie”.
