Evelyn (Bunny) L. Edmunds Schermerhorn passed away peacefully at Guthrie-Lourdes hospital on Tuesday April 30, 2024. She is survived by her son Bruce (Jackie Swan) of Endicott, daughter-in-law Stephanie Miller (Tim) and granddaughter Jasmine (Jeremy) Leuschke of Florida, brother George W. (Bill) Edmunds (Cici) of Phoenix Arizona, her loving niece Nancy Hunsinger, many other nieces, nephews, cousins and her godson Scott (Wendy) Westcott. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Eugene (Gene) R. Schermerhorn, beloved son David, father George L. Edmunds, mother Doris Hungerford and her best friend and sister Mary Edmunds.
Bunny was born in Biddeford Maine, she was a 1951 graduate of Union-Endicott High School, attended Keuka College and was employed by IBM Federal Systems, Owego NY. When her children were born she became a “stay at home mom.“ Later she and her husband owned and operated their own business, Schermerhorn Steps & Rails for 24 years.
She loved Maine lobster, was an avid reader, a wonderful gardner, played pitch and poker, out of town trips with the Endicott Northside Senior Citizens, especially trips to casinos. She also enjoyed, along with her husband and sons, time spent at their family cottage on Crystal Lake, Deposit, summer vacations at Chippewa Bay on the St. Lawrence River, and trips to Eastport Maine to visit her family.
She was an excellent cook, with many memorable holiday meals such as her Christmas Day Prime Rib dinner or chicken barbecue sauce for the Lake Association picnics, old-style baked beans and enjoyed an occasional Manhattan using her father’s “special” recipe.
The family wishes to thank Angel’s Helping Hands for their compassionate home health care aide services. The family also wishes to acknowledge the very kind care of a very special aide, Shaheen Mclean.
Many thanks also to Bunny’s very special neighbors, Marty and Chris Loftus who helped Bunny in so many ways in her later years.
Bunny has requested that no services be held other than a small private internment next to her loving husband and the many good friends who have gone before her. Internment will be at Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott.
Memorial contributions may be made to the volunteer Campville Fire Dept., 6153 State Route 17C, Campville, NY 13760. Their EMT ambulance services were of great help to Bunny and her husband during their final years.
