Father Charles Currie

Father Charles Currie, retired priest in residence at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Endicott, and former Pastor of St. Ambrose Church in Endicott, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 23, 2014. He was 82. Father Currie was ordained a priest in 1958 in the Order of Friars Minor of the Conventual Franciscans, with whom he served until leaving to marry Sally Gilhool. After many years, Father Currie received permission to return to priestly ministry in the Diocese of Syracuse where he lovingly served the faithful until the day God called him home. He is survived by his brother Brendan; former wife, Sally; daughters, Jennifer and Charlotte; his son, Jonathan; and five grandchildren, Robert, Kyle, Christian Charles, Cory, and Sarah Rose. Father Currie will be remembered for his great compassion, the ease and peace he engendered in others, his wonderful sense of humor, and especially the unique way in which he conveyed God’s thoroughgoing love and mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
All services for Father Currie will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 701 West Main Street, Endicott. Calling hours will be held from 2 pm until 7 pm, Tuesday, December 30, concluding with a Prayer Vigil at 7 pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday, December 31. Memorial donations will be accepted to endow a scholarship fund for Father Currie’s grandchildren. Donations can be made through Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
