Fenton Mcvannan

Fenton D. McVannan, 93, of West Endicott peacefully left this world to be with his Lord on August 5th 2021. Fenton was preceded by his loving wife, Phyllis McVannan, their infant son William Wesley, and his parents Helen (Card) and William McVannan. He is survived by his children, daughter Vickie McVannan Potochniak Weiner and her husband Robert, son Jamie McVannan and wife Joanne, son David McVannan, and son Kevin McVannan and wife Kristine. Twelve grandchildren, Stephen, Courtney, Matthew, Corey, Christopher, Kyle, Talan, Taylor, Hope, Madelyn, Kylie and Alexander. Three great-grandchildren Savannah, Jameson and Killian.
Fenton was born and raised in West Endicott. He enlisted in the USMC immediately after graduation from Union Endicott High School. He was a WWII veteran. During his time in the Corp he received letters from his next door neighbor, Phyllis. Through these letters the couple fell in love. They married after his honorable discharge from the USMC and spent several years creating their dream home. Fenton worked for Endicott Johnson. He then transferred to the USPS where he worked for thirty-three years. He was everyone’s favorite mailman and remembered people’s names and addresses for years after his retirement.
Together Fenton and Phyllis raised four children. Fenton passed on his love for hunting and fishing to all his children. He fished with them well into his nineties. Phyllis did not share Fenton’s enthusiasm for hunting and preferred not to chase rabbits out of the brambles. She bought him his first hunting dog, Bill. They were an inseparable pair.
Fenton and Phyllis spent their 50th wedding anniversary on an Alaskan cruise, a special time for both of them. Fenton was also able to attend an Honor Flight, a day he talked about frequently. Fenton was able to spend a lot of time with his children during his time in the hospice program. He especially enjoyed Father’s Day where he was treated to a bagpipe concert. Although we will all miss Fenton, we are thankful he is now at peace and reunited with his bride of nearly sixty years finally together forever. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Aubrey from Lourdes Hospice as well as Linda, Lisa and Tammy, Jeannie, special caring people who helped make Fenton’s wish of dying at home possible.
Funeral Services will be held Monday 1:30 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Allen memorial Home Monday from 12 pm until service time at 1:30 pm.
