Gene R. George, 93 years old, of Endicott, NY, passed away on August 6, 2015 at The Ideal Senior Living Center, Endicott surrounded by his family. Gene was predeceased by the love of his life, Elizabeth (Libby) George, their son Phillip, grandson Phillip Steven, his parents, Giuseppe and Pasqua (Battaglini) George, father and mother-in-law James and Anna Brogan, brothers and sisters in-law Mario (Moon) and Rose, Albert (Lampy) and Helen, brothers Tony and Jimmy, sisters Annie and Mary, brothers-in-law Richard and Thomas Brogan, niece Donna Lee Wyatt (George), and nephew Robert George. Gene is survived by his son Gene and daughter-in-law Peggy (Armstrong) and their children Thomas, Mary Elizabeth, Daniel and Patrick, daughter-in-law Christine George (Jackson) and grandchildren Christopher, Brian, Peter (Kristen), and great-grandchildren Kirsten and Ainsley, sister-in-law Margaret George (Greco), nieces and nephews Susan (Bill) Campbell, David (Barbara)George, Christine (Joe) Brown, Michael (Shari )George, Jackie George (Stearns), Janice (Jim) Terwilliger , Tom Wyatt, as well as many wonderful grand-nieces and nephews. Gene was born on October 11, 1921, and graduated from Union-Endicott High School in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II and a life-long member of American Legion Post 82, Endicott. Gene had a long and successful career in sales as well as spending many years as a chef, restaurant manager, and banquet manager in The Triple Cities. He loved to cook for his family and friends, read, take long walks, draw, listen to music, tend to his garden, and watch the NY Yankees. Gene was a member of Saint Anthony’s Parish in Endicott for most of his life, and was a Eucharistic Minister there for over thirty years. The George Family would like to express our sincerest thanks and gratitude to Ideal Senior Living, and particularly to the staff at Daisy Court who were so kind, patient, and caring with Gene during his final years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 11 am at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Montrose, PA. The family will receive friends at church Tuesday from 10 am until Mass time at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 401 Hayes Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
