George Corino

George L. (Georgio) Corino, 93, of Endicott, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 31, 2014. He was born September 8, 1921, in Endicott, New York, to the late Annunziata and Fortunato Corino. He was predeceased by his siblings, Cleopatra (Clara) Marino, Helen Ferris, Louise Gance, Mary Anz, Delores (Dolly) Kiral, Phylis Yurman, Arthur B. Corino, James M. Corino, Robert Corino, Fred (Fritz) Corino and Nicholas Corino. George is survived by his sister-in-law, Dilys Corino, brother-in-law, Hy Yurman; loving nieces and nephews, Thomas and Teresa Corino, Fred and Peggy Corino and Bruce Yurman; as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He also leaves his precious cats, Joey and Sophia, who have been great companions for three years. George served his country in the Army during the Korean War where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. During the Korean occupation, he served in the capacity of company clerk. After the service, he attended the Wilfred Academy of Hair and Beauty Culture in New York City. With a degree in cosmetology, he worked for many years for his sister, Mary, at the Empire Beauty Salon on Washington Avenue, in Endicott, New York. Later George found work at Endicott Forging as a weight and cost estimator and remained there for 26 years. George was most proud of his Italian heritage. He was a long-time member of the Sons of Italy Lodge #443 and was voted “Man of the Year” in 2004. He was founder and director of the Endicott Opera Cabaret which show-cased local talent as well as many prominent, renowned voices including Randy Messing and international baritone, Guido LeBron. He was extremely proud of the quality of shows he coordinated as well as affording young, aspiring singers opportunity and a venue to perform. Music and singing was George’s true love and passion. His melodic voice will be missed, especially by his neighbors as he practiced his scales religiously. The family would like to extend special “thank-you’s” to his kind neighbors who always made time for a smile, wave or a chat on the porch – it meant the world to George. Words cannot express our sincere appreciation to his loving caregivers Lisa, Diane, Laurie, Charlene and his most precious pal, Elaine. Thank you, Elaine, for your loving care and continual guidance over the many years caring for George. You helped him pass with dignity and respect. We feel truly blessed to have you in our lives.
Family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 9 to 10:30 am, followed by a brief service. Arrivederci, Georgio…till we meet again…
