George J. Hoeflein, Jr., 84, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, George Sr. and Helen Hoeflein; brothers in law, Bernard Flederbach; Frederick Flederbach; Robert Hendery and Lawrence Bridge; sisters in law, Patricia Flederbach and Phyliss Flederbach. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Madeline (Flederbach) Hoeflein; daughters, Lynn Hoeflein; Diane Shaheen and Janet (Patrick) Nally; a son, Michael(Catherine) Hoeflein; grandchildren, Christopher (Megan) and Daniel Hoeflein; Katherine; Kimberly and Kevin Shaheen; Meghan and Colin Nally; a great grandson, Joseph Hoeflein; brothers, William (Helen) Hoeflein and Robert (Ann) Hoeflein; sisters, Lila Hendery and Grace (Bill) Bartlett; brother in law, Robert Flederbach; sisters in law Mary Bridge and Rose Flederbach and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Born on January 11, 1930, George graduated from St. James Elementary School, Johnson City High School and Broome Tech. He served his country in the U.S. Army and saw combat during the Korean War. After retiring with 34 years of service to IBM, Endicott, George continued to work for over 25 years at several local firms including Henry’s Income Tax and B&C Tax Service. A devout Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. George enjoyed playing golf, working around his house as well as traveling extensively with Madeline, but above all, he loved his grandchildren and looked forward to attending as many of their school events, games and activities as possible.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 am from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home Sunday from 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his honor may be made to Catholic Charities Food Pantry, 100 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
