Gerald Shaughnessy

Gerald Joseph Shaughnessy of Apalachin left this world to go home on June 12, 2014. He was born in Binghamton, NY, but grew up in Little Meadows, PA. Although he occasionally traveled, there’s no place he loved like home. Jerry graduated from Owego Free Academy and then joined the Navy. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Marie Hastings-Shaughnessy; his parents, Ed & Nellie Shaughnessy; and his siblings, Rita, Jim, Jean & Ed. Jerry is survived by his siblings, Helen Fitzgerald & Paul Shaughnessy; his sons, Tim, Matt, & Pat; his beloved niece, Rose Brown and many nieces and nephews, his daughters-in-law, Liz & Aimee and his grandchildren, Paige, Brinn, Leigha, Tyler & Alexis. Jerry worked at IBM as a machinist and later as a buyer before he retired in 1989 to mow lawn, work in his garden and maybe have a beer (or two). Jerry and his wife Marie loved visiting with family, friends and greeting “DB”s with a special wave at the local hot spots. Jerry’s family expresses a special thank you to Kelly Bell and the other caregivers in his final days.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 3:30 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary’s Church, Pennsylvania Avenue, Apalachin. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Traci’s Hope, P.O. Box 504, Apalachin, NY 13732.
